PETRA OBD/WBD

PETRA OBD/WBD

COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW

Demulsification is used for the separation of water from crude oil. As crude oil is produced from a reservoir it tends to become mixed with either natural formation water or mixed formation and injection water.

Demulsifiers, or emulsion breakers, are a class of specialty chemicals used to separate emulsions, for example, water in oil. They are commonly used in the processing of crude oil, which is typically produced along with significant quantities of saline water.

Demulsifiers assist in the separation of water from fuel and can break existing emulsions. The addition of a demulsifier before sending the fuel to tankage or before bunkering onboard a ship will aid in the removal of water.

For the demulsifier to work effectively, it must make intimate contact with the emulsion and reach the oil/water interface. Adequate mixing or agitation must be provided to thoroughly mix the chemical into the emulsion.

ADVANTAGES OF DEMULSIFIERS:

To separate the oil from the water, demulsifier are introduced at the wellhead to break up the emulsion.

Demulsifier are used in the refining process to disperse emulsions and facilitate the removal of water from oil.

Demulsifier are used in the waste treatment industry to separate oil and water in waste streams.

Demulsifier can help reduce corrosion of equipment and pipes, which can be accelerated by the water and contaminants in emulsions.

Demulsifier can be used in different types of crude oils, including heavy and light crude oils, and it can be used in different salinities ranging from fresh water to saturated brines.

This product is effective in breaking emulsions that are caused by different factors such as mechanical shear, chemical reactions, or microbial growth.

APPLICATIONS OF DEMULSIFIERS:

Remove oil from waste water stream

Remove solid from the sludge.

Minimize the wastage to store from waste system.

Lowering the operating cost

It separate formation water from crude oil Emulsion.

Increase the profit by recovery of material.

HOW DOES DEMULSIFIER WORKS:

Demulsifier contain surfactants that have both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties. When added to an emulsion, the demulsifier molecules adsorb at the oil-water interface, positioning themselves between the water droplets and the oil phase.

This adsorption reduces the interfacial tension, weakening the bonds between the water and oil, and initiating the separation process.

The effectiveness of demulsifiers is influenced by various factors such as the type of emulsion, temperature, salinity, pH, and the composition of the demulsifier itself.

COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW:

A demulsifier is a chemical compound used to break emulsions, which are mixtures of two immiscible liquids such as oil and water. In the context of drilling fluids, demulsifiers are primarily used to separate water from oil-based muds, helping to improve the efficiency and performance of drilling operations. By breaking these emulsions, demulsifiers prevent the accumulation of water and sludge, which can negatively impact the drilling process and reduce the effectiveness of the fluid. Demulsifiers are crucial in the oil and gas industry, especially for offshore drilling, where water-oil emulsions are common.

In drilling fluids, demulsifiers help in maintaining the desired viscosity, preventing corrosion, and enhancing the lubrication properties of the fluid. Their ability to break emulsions quickly ensures that the mud remains stable, efficient, and easier to manage, especially in harsh drilling environments. As a result, demulsifiers contribute to faster drilling times and cost savings by improving the longevity of the fluid and reducing maintenance needs. These additives also play a key role in reducing the environmental impact of drilling operations by facilitating the easier separation and disposal of water and waste.
